The government body within the Ministry of Transport that deals with this sector is the Administration of Shipping and Ports. In addition, Israel’s ports are currently operatedand developed by government owned companies.
Israeli trade potential is highly dependent on a swift, reliable and competitive operational structure for all shipping and ports activities.
Up to 2005 the organizational structure of the Israeli sea ports, characterized by one authorized operator, adversely affected the entire sector. The centralized structure denied the ports' independence and decision making on a commercial basis.
