The Diesel Engine’s fuel system: Flow diagram, various pump types, bleeding air from the system, reasons and possible effects for water-accumulation in the fuel-tank, bleeding water from the system, water separators and filters, typical malfunctions, necessary caution while handling fuel, sea and shore pollution. Running maintenance. Knowledge of the measurement units: PSI, atmosphere, liter, U.S. gallon, kilogram, Centigrade and Fahrenheit degrees and their mutual transliteration.   X
The outboard-motor fuel system, special caution and safety.   X
The operating principles of  4 - stroke  and 2 - stroke Diesel and gasoline engines.   X
The cooling system: Closed system, direct system, keel system. Operating principles, the advantages and disadvantages of each system, typical malfunctions in each of them - including the danger of flooding the boat and it’s prevention, running maintenance.   X
The boat’s electric system: Familiarity with the boat’s electric system, including the Direct Current (DC)  system as the main system and the Alternating Current (AC) system, locating malfunctions on the boat. X  
The Boat’s electric batteries system: Inspections, load division, energy-saving regime whilst sailing without charging, battery maintenance, the various battery types (dry, wet) disposal of obsolete (“finished”) batteries, the dangers of handling batteries.   X
Electric measuring units: Ampere, Volt, Ohm, Ampere-hour, Watt. The meaning and dangers of short-circuit and overloading.   X
Special caution while handling  2-stroke and 4-stroke portable generators.   X
The propeller-shaft system, the methods of making it watertight.   X
Power transfer from the motor to the propeller: The functions and interactions of the pistons, the crank-shaft, the gear and the propeller-shaft.   X
The engine indicators on a sailing  boat using an auxiliary engine, using them to locate and recognize malfunctions. X  
The drinking water system, the function of a typical system using a hydropore pump, water tank preventive maintenance. X  
Fire fighting: The causes of a combustion, different types of fire, standard extinguishing equipment, automatic systems. Cooking-gas safety measures, extinguisher periodical checking and their maintenance.   X
Cathodic Protection, it’s  meaning and it’s importance: In the propeller-shaft system, in the engine cooling system and the boat’s hull. X  
What bilge pumps are required on a boat, according to the regulations - and what are the required indications.   X
